Diabetic consultancy
Diabetes mellitus defines a chronic metabolism disorder characterized by an enhanced blood glucose level, i.e. too much sugar in the blood.
There are two main types of diabetes:
Type 1 Diabetes tends to emerge during childhood or adolescence and is caused by the auto-immune destruction f the insulin producing cells.
Type 2 Diabetes, on the other hand, mainly afflicts people at an advanced age. It sets in gradually and is not due to a lack of insulin, but rather a result of a growing anergy or insensitivity of cells against insulin.
Typical symptoms of diabetes mellitus are intensified thirst, increased urination, itching, abnormal fatigue and susceptibility to infection. Extreme high or low levels of blood sugar can cause life-threatening situations and loss of consciousness. While the symptoms of untreated type 1 diabetes are more pronounced, an existing type 2 diabetes can exist for a long time without any visible symptoms and is often only diagnosed at a late stage due to long-term sequelae or disorders. These late bodily harms can be avoided by regular medical check-ups.
Type 1 diabetes is always treated with insulin injections. In the case of type 2 diabetes, an altered lifestyle with more exercise, weight reduction and a change in eating habits can help to counteract the symptoms. During later stages of the illness, medication to regulate blood sugar levels as well as an insulation therapy also becomes necessary.
A life-long and diligent blood level adjustment in the case of diabetes mellitus is the decisive factor to prevent long-term sequelae or damages, such as heart attack, strokes, circulatory disorders, alterations of the retina up to blindness, kidney dysfunctions leading to acute renal failure and erectile dysfunctions. Irregular blood sugar levels can furthermore damage nerves, causing anacousia or numbness as well as dysesthesia or sensitivity disorders.
Although there is as yet no cure for diabetes mellitus, diabetics who carefully monitor and regulate their blood sugar level can lead a normal life free of complaints.
We set up an individual and carefully drawn up diet plan and nutrition schedule for our diabetic patients, control and monitor the blood sugar level and regularly examine so-called secondary complications and diseases.
