Identifying allergies and treating them efficiently
The term allergy was coined in 1906 by Baron Clemens von Pirquet, a Viennese paediatrician. Pirquet was the first to recognize that antibodies are not only protective immune substances, but can additionally lead to hypersensitivity. Today, the term allergy is used to define hypersensitivity and intolerance that is caused by an immune reaction to otherwise harmless antigens.
Allergy symptoms can range from mild to serious and in some cases be lethal. Depending on exposure to the allergy causing substance, the symptoms may only arise seasonally, as in the case of pollen flight. In other cases, allergy symptoms may occur all the year round, as demonstrated by intolerance to acarina or mite secretion.
Allergies and hypersensitivity can affect the following:
*Mucous membrane (hay fever, inflamed mouth mucous membrane, conjunctivitis) *Respiratory tract (bronchial asthma) *Epidermis or skin (neurodermatitis, eczema, urticaria) *Gastrointestinal tract (vomiting, diarrhoea) *Whole body (acute emergency resulting in an anaphylactic shock)
Our modus operandi:
Since the possible causes for an allergy are manifold, an allergy test must be done first of all. This is an allergological diagnosis to clarify an atopic stress (allergy) through so-called scratch test (skin tests) or rast tests (in vitro in blood serum).
In this manner, we are able to diagnose allergic intolerances against different types of food, house and dust mites, pollen, animals and others.
We will issue you a so-called allergy registration card and will advise you in depth about allergy avoidance methods and potential forms of therapy. In our practice, these usually take on the form of acupuncture, hypoallergisation as well as modern pharmacological approaches.
